Summer Bucket List Updates and Edits

I can already cross one thing off my summer bucket list! I made it to a St. Paul Saints game last week and got to see their first game in their new stadium, CHS Field.

Everything is shiny and new in the stadium. It turned out to be great weather and the Saints pulled out a win!

I’m going back for another game in a couple weeks, and will have to try some more ballpark food.

In my effort to get my summer bucket list up, I realized I wanted to update one item and add something, so here’s the updated list:

  • Listen to jazz at the Twin Cities Jazz Festival. Made a solid effort to go last year, but mother nature had other plans. Hope I get to see some jazz this year!
  • Take in some music or a movie at one of the Minneapolis Music & Movies in the park locations. Kind of got to see some music in the park last year, but would love to give it another try and maybe check out a movie.
  • Play mini golf. Hopefully at the Walker Art Center if they have their artist-designed course again this year.
  • Spend a night at the drive-in.
  • Run the Minneapolis lakes. Given that I’ll be marathon training, I figured this would help change up the scenery. I’ve run around a few of the chain of lakes, but not all of them. Whether I connect several on some long runs, or just hit one for a quick run, I wan to hit them all.
  • Eat something on a stick at the MN State Fair and ride the Ferris wheel! I always walk around and eat the food at the fair, but I’ve never done one of the rides, and I think it would be a fun fair experience. 🙂

Memorial Day weekend has been fun and relaxing despite the fact that it was mainly cloudy and rainy. The sun actually came out for a bit tonight, so I took the opportunity to get in a 3 mile run. Gonna be hard to get up for work in the morning, but looking forward to a fun, short week.

How did you spend Memorial Day weekend?

2015 Summer Bucket List

Memorial Day is just around the corner, a.k.a. the start of summer. So, I figured I’d brush off and update my summer bucket list. I made it through most of my list last year, but not everything. So this year’s list includes some stuff I didn’t do last year (or want to do again) and a couple new things.

Flag Day 5K Race Entry Giveaway!

In the mood for a summer 5K? Well you’re in luck! I’ve got a race entry to giveaway for the perfect summer 5K!

It’s the MN DAR Flag Day 5K. I ran this race for the first time last year and had a great time despite some rain.

Thanks for the pic H!

I already registered to run again this year but will be taking it easy. Marathon training starts soon. (Eek!) Scary, but I’m looking forward to it. Just one of many things I’m looking forward to this summer!

This race supports the Minneapolis Fisher House – a place where veterans and their families can stay for free while receiving treatment at the VA hospital.

On top of being able to support a good cause, the course is United States Track and Field-certified and professionally chip timed. It’s a flat, fast course, so the perfect place to go for a 5K PR. It’s not a ginormous race, so it’s also perfect for new runners or walkers who want to have a good time.

Now that you know a little about the race, get ready to win a race entry! To enter, leave a comment telling me something you’re looking forward to this summer — a race, a wedding, a trip, anything! Submit your comment by midnight on Thursday, May 21. I’ll randomly select a winner and announce it on May 22. Good luck!

Much needed vacation

I got to spend the last week on a much needed vacation. Nothing better than kicking off the summer season with some family time at the beach. This vacation included a lot of the typical lounging in the sun, eating great food, and relaxation. It also included some good beach workouts.

The day I flew in was rainy, but there were palm trees so I knew I was officially on vacation!

We did a little shopping to pass the time. I found a purple panda in a store! Actually, I saw three purple pandas that day – all different, all in different stores. (P.S. this is significant because my favorite color is purple and my favorite animal is a panda :P)

By the end of the day, the weather was starting to turn around.

The next few days were beautiful and allowed us to get out for some long walks on the beach in the mornings and then lay in the sun in the afternoon. The dog loved going for some walks with us, too!

MB4

I did manage to get in a 5 mile beach run one day.

MB5

A couple days later, some rain moved in so I had to hit the treadmill for a 2.5 mile run, but at least I had a nice view.

MB6

Our last day of vacation was gorgeous. It was almost a crime to come up from the beach so we could catch our flight. After a busy several weeks, the relaxation was so nice. Can’t wait to go back!

How are you gearing up for summer?
